HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT FEEDBACK?
Feedback is important and in many cases necessary in order to move on.
On a personal level I like to ask for feedback and I request it often in my job to see and get others involved in the decisions that I take and will affect the team.
I have realized,(an this is my opinion), the difference on feedback and a personal opinion:
FEEDBACK: You will answer the request of feedback saying what you hear the person say and you will answer it by putting yourself in her/his shoes without taking into account your personal feelings on the subject matter. You will answer based on what the other person will/should do, not based on what you will/should do.
PERSONAL OPINION: When asked for personal opinion you will answer based on your own experience, knowledge, wisdom, viewpoint on the subject. This is equally difficult as it is hard to be consequent with oneself and sometimes we say what the other person wants to hear instead of what we really feel.
It is important to know who to go to for feedback and who to ask for a personal opinion.
For feedback I will go to somebody that can be objective, non-judgemental and open minded.
For personal opinion I will go to someone I admire, respect, someone that has done studies on the subject or someone with recognition on that field.
I can give my opinion to anyone, (and I often do), to give feedback I need to know more and I often need to ask more questions, I think I am not qualify to give feedback until I know a little bit about the person. Then I see feedback been most effective and not just water under the bridge.
